These were first. I was two years old when I first slipped them on. I didn't yet know right from left so they were perfect.
In time, ballet turned to track, slippers tossed for track shoes. Every athlete begins somewhere. That somewhere is the place you keep returning to, to regain your foundation, balance, strength. For years, for me, this foundation had always been ballet. If my speed was slack, I'd return to ballet. If my finesse was off, I returned to ballet. Until I stepped into yoga, and then yoga became ground zero.
